Tone pairs in two-syllable words
Most words have two syllables, so tones are learned best in pairs: 中国 Zhōngguó (1+2), 老师 lǎoshī (3+1).
There are 20 possible combinations of four tones plus neutral. Learning words as pairs trains your ear faster than single syllables.
In each drill, pick the correct tone pattern for the whole word.
